Chapters: 1-18
Perspective: ME
Prompt: A
TKAM is full of strange people. These people live in a place that’s nowhere close to California and they live very, very, different lives. Maycomb exists in its own little bubble. It notices that there is an outside world with bigger problems that need solving and yet in many ways it keeps to its self. Here in San Diego you will know about 40 people really well and that’s it. In Maycomb everyone is familiar with each other’s existence. Basically they all know each other. Even with all these differences I have found a connection. In my neighborhood there is a boy who lives with his mom, let’s call him John and his mother Gloria. These people are the Radley family of my neighborhood.
There was a time when my mother knew John and Gloria. My mom and I went to their house twice but we always ended up leaving because John and I didn’t get along. To me there was always something off about him. He was always this mysterious person to me and my friends. We rarely say him outside and he never cared to take part in games that we played. Occasionally we saw him walking with his mother. His mother Gloria was a scientist who walked everywhere. John and Gloria seemed to have Indian heritage but no one was really sure what ethic background they came from. Their house is always quite and seems as if it’s dead. There is almost never a car in the driveway. The house is semi surrounded by a wall that goes from the left side of the house and connects to the garage making an isolated area in front of their door and street facing windows. Because of this their house seemed like a fortress and no one cared to walk up to it.
John and Boo Radley share the same sort of mysterious everyone knows of, but no one knows. I along with my friends know he’s there but we don’t really know what he is or what he’s doing. We all have a story to tell about him and everyone in Maycomb has a story about Boo Radley. A few years ago we tried to organize a play date because that’s what you do when your 8 but it never came through. Dill, Scout and Jem tried to contact Boo in Maycomb. Now that we have grown up we have recognized that he keeps to himself and goes through life like that, and you know what? We are totally fine with that. Who knows, maybe if Jem and Scout fail at getting Boo to come out they may do the same thing that me and my friends did… go play video games.
