Chapter 10 response

Lord of the Flies
Chapter 10- The Shell and the Glasses
"God help them. "
Perspective: Simon

Poor Ralph and Piggy, they are lost. They are so shaken up by my death that they can’t think straight. Piggy just doesn’t want to believe that he was there. But he can’t escape it, he knows that he was there hearing my mutters of the dead man. He knows that he was lost in the moment. So he decided to believe that it was a mistake, and accident. Ralph understands it but he is being too hard on himself. He thinks it is murder. Murder is a bit much. Even if he wanted to stop them from killing me he wouldn’t have been able to. Jack was leading the killing and he wasn’t going to stop, after all he is barmy. Over all they need to stop dwelling in the mixed feelings of my death, if they don’t they will not be able to think straight.

I gave up hope for Jack a long time ago. He has lost it. He thinks that he is in illumination, as he commits these strange acts of cruelty. The beating of that boy was entirely unnecessary. I have thought of this a lot and all I can come up with was he was showing how strong and powerful he is. And even if that is the case it’s still unnecessary. Everyone knows he is powerful; he kills pigs, gets them food, and rules over every one on the island. Even Ralph is somewhat controlled by him. In the end his evilness can only escalate from how bad it is now.

Jack looked bad when my death happened. Everyone was down and kind of questioning Jack’s leadership skills. To ensure that people stayed on his side he blinded them with thoughts of the beast in disguise as me. They no longer looked at is as killing an innocent person but as hurting an evil horrible monster. This idea was in no way theological, if any of those boys were to even think of the things that would lead to a shape shifting monster they would find Jack as a liar.

Jack only makes things more complicated than they need to be. He told Maurice and Roger that they would raid Ralph’s camp and steal his fire. If Jack were to make a trade with Ralph there would be no need for raids. Jack wanted fire; he could have traded meat with Ralph for enough fire to create his own camp fire. But no Jack doesn’t think like that he is crazy remember, he wanted to forcefully take what he wanted.

In the end the raid was a mini battle that shook all the littleluns. They were calmly sleeping when they were woken up by a brawl that happened in the dark somewhere. No one could see what or who they were fighting. Because they were woken up just moments before the fight happened their brain and reaction timing were slowed down. This gave Jack the time he needed to steal the fire. Again Jack caused a big problem that never needed to exist. He didn’t take stick that was on fire back to castle rock to create his own, he took Piggy’s glasses. This made Piggy a liability not a benefit, he can no longer see. This is going to end very badly.

Over all I am dead now, purged from life’s problems and pains. All I can do is wish them luck.
